I woke up early and traveled two and half hours from Boljoon (on bus) to Cebu City Philippines to watch the dancing prisoners, yes dancing prisoners, the last Saturday of each month they let tourist come and see the famous dancing prisoners. My friend Lani got tickets from the head prisoner guard and wanted me to go with her and her cousin. If you never seen this event, it is a must see! The show lasted two hours and the prisoners dances to song from Michel Jackson to the Beatles. It was weird being that close to convicts that have been in prison for many years, anything for drugs to human trafficing. Most of the prisoners were under 30 years old.
There was three of us when we went to the dance, but we meet a American Traveler named Matt and he join our group to make Four! After the show we went to eat and then to go see a Korean punk band! I was invited to this show from my friend Kenji, a local friend of mine. They were really good and it was great to see live music here in Cebu City. Most of the music you see here are people singing to 80s and 90s love songs. This was SO out of the norm for this country, very refreshing to say the least. I love to see the gen- X in a mosh pit going in circles.
Stay tuned for the next adventure from the Islands!
